Hay and straw contracting specialists
Big Bale Co provides specialist hay and straw contracting services to farmers across Western Australia. It is a family-owned business, run by Russel & Margaret Thomson and John & Karen Thomson, and is based in Wagin / Woodanilling.
With over 30 years experience in the straw and hay baling industry, and active interests in broadacre cropping and livestock farming, we understand the pressures from a farming systems, production and profitability point of view. Big Bale Co prides itself on its extensive industry experience, innovation and professional standards.
Our directors and key staff have extensive experience in the industry and our directors are hands-on in the business. We have an exceptional reputation within the hay industry and have been involved in industry bodies and the development of industry codes and standards. e.g. hay and straw bale road transport code.
Big Bale Co. started contracting with two balers in the early 1980's and has since expanded to run a fleet of balers working throughout the agricultural region. Our large fleet of machinery allows for flexibility, and most of our machinery is serviced and maintained in house. Our fleet includes HDP2 Krone 4 x 3 balers with 8520 John Deere tractors, along with Massey Ferguson balers pulled by 4640 John Deere tractors. We pride ourselves on having a sound understanding of our machinery to ensure minimal downtime when we are baling.
Our paddock operations are overseen by John Thomson, Russel Thomson and Hamish Murray, all of whom have extensive experience as baler operators. We have also operated mowing and raking services in the past, but now focus on providing a dedicated baling service, as we believe that baling is a specialist job in its own right. We have some rakes available for our baling clients.
In 2011, Big Bale Pilbara was established to work for Rio Tinto on a contract basis. BBP is involved in advice and operation to turn excess mine water into hay under irrigation pivots in the north of Western Australia. This provides an exciting opportunity to bring together mining and agricultural interests.Take a peek at the project: https://www.abc.net.au/news/rural/2013-04-22/the-hamersley-agricultural-project-gallery/4631862
